OSCEOLA -- Bernice W. Crook, 95, died Saturday (May 23, 2009) at Osceola Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.
She was born Aug. 28, 1913, to Lewis Elmo and Katherine Edna (Boyd) Humphreys at North Bend. She attended school in Benkelman graduating in 1932.
On Aug. 18, 1933, she married Basil LeRoy Crook at St. Francis. In 1951, the family moved to McCook where she worked at Hinky Dinky for 25 years, retiring at the age of 65.
She spent 26 years as a snowbird at Mission, Texas. On Jan. 3, 1984, her husband died. She then moved to Shelby in 2000. On Feb. 20, 2007, she suffered a stroke and on March 5, 2007 she moved to the Osceola Good Samaritan Society in Osceola where she resided until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Edna Humphreys; two brothers, Boyd and Don Humphreys; two sisters, Mae Merklin and Beth Richard.
Survivors include her two sons, Keith and wife, Bernice A. Crook of Minneapolis, Minn., and Larry and wife, Jan Crook of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Janet and husband, John O'Brien of Shelby and Betty and husband, Deane Thomson of Kent, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Glenn Hubbard officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be Thursday, at 1 p.m. CST at the Benkelman Cemetery.
