Petrina 'Peanut' Mae (Bahmer) Gruhn

GRAND ISLAND -- Petrina "Peanut" Mae (Bahmer) Gruhn, 37, of Grand Island, died Wednesday (May 13, 2009) at home with her family by her side.

She was born Aug. 28, 1971, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Henry Rider and Karleen Gilbert Cooper. She grew up in the Hayes Center and Trenton areas. She received her education at Hayes Center High School.

She entered the Army National Guard in May of 2001. She was united in marriage to Dana Gruhn on Oct. 12, 2002, in Grand Island. She was employed by McElroy Service Co. in Grand Island. The couple also lived in Grand Junction, Colo., where she was a stay-at-home mom.

She was a member of the New Life Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Harold Gilbert; grandparents, Bill and Anna Cooper; aunt, Susie Gilbert; and uncle, Leonard Tepley.

Survivors include her husband, Dana Gruhn of Grand Island; sons, Elliot Johnson of Grand Island and Kenneth Gruhn of Grand Island; daughter, Elizabeth Gruhn of Grand Island; parents, Monte and Karleen Cooper of Hamlet; brother, Joe Gilbert of Grand Junction, Colo.; sisters, Teresa Walrath of Grand Junction, Colo., and Dawn Smith of Palisade; mother-in-law and father-in-law, LaDonna Sickler and Terry Sickler; and numerous other relatives..

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home with the Chaplain Major Houser officiating. IInurment will take place at 10 a.m. (MST) on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta with the Rev. Leo Porter officiating.

Visitation will be today from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to be given in care of the family.
