William A. "Bill" Mesh, 84, died May 5, 2009, at Promise Regional Medical Center, ICU.
He was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Kansas City, Kan., to John A. and M. Louise (Strotgen) Mesh. He graduated in 1941 from Bishop Ward High School, Kansas City, in 1943 from Finlay Engineering College and in 1953 from Wichita University with a degree in accounting. He received his CPA in 1958.
A resident of Hutchinson, Kan., since 1953, he was a Certified Public Accountant for Bartlett, Settle and Edgerle until 1975, when he left to become Chief Financial Officer of Hutchinson Hospital, where he retired from in 1989. He aided in the merger of St. Elizabeth and Grace Hospitals into Hutchinson Hospital.
He belonged to the Church of the Holy Cross of Hutchinson.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a navigator during World War II. He was a B24 Liberator Bomber with the 307th Bomb Group (H) 13th Air Force, "The Jungle Air Force," and went on 35 flying missions.
On April 15, 1952, he married Marie M. Churchman in Wichita, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Robert William of Topeka, Kan., John J. of McCook and Paul G. and wife, Mari of Hutchinson; two daughters, Janet M. Cooper of Hutchinson and Terese "Terry" Chapman of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John L. Mesh.
Parish rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday at the church, with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson, with the family present to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum at Hutchinson.
