Homer J. "Whitey" Troxell Jr. died at his home on Thursday, April 30, 2009. He was 79 years old.
He was born in McCook on July 26, 1929, one of six children born to Homer Ira and Myrtle Ellesta (Barnes) Troxell.
In 1954, Whitey retired from the military and they made their home in McCook. He was employed at Joe's Sporting Goods and D&S Hardware for many years.
On Feb. 12, 2005, he married June Morgan in Culbertson.
Whitey loved to fish with his family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife Martha Jane; two brothers, Jack and Maurice; and three sisters, Virginia, Rita and Barbara.
Survivors include his wife, June of McCook; a sister, Edith Persinger of Oberlin; step-children, Linda Blake and husband, Bob Boner of Indianola, Wayne Emrich and wife, Lisa of Trenton and Wray Emrich and wife, Pat of South Carolina; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and his little dog "Buddy."
Memorials may be given in his name.
A public graveside memorial service will be Friday, May 8, 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook with Pastor Richard Karr and Terry McCorkle officiating with a military honor committal.
