CAMBRIDGE -- Guy Edward Pierce, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge at the age of 75.
He was born May 28, 1933, at Amiot, Kan., the son of the late Ray Owen and Bessie (Tilford) Pierce. He grew up in Kansas and attended high school at Waverly, Kan.,
On Dec. 24, 1951, Guy married Shirley Winter at Ottawa, Kan. Guy worked for Skellgas before they moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1953. Guy became a union carpenter working for Local Union 168.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. They moved to Danbury in September of 1981 where he continued working in commercial construction until retiring in 1991. For the past 11 years he worked for the water department for the village of Danbury.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Erma Cook and Mary Pierce.
Guy is survived by his wife, Shirley Pierce of Danbury; four sons, Glen Pierce and Michael Pierce and wife, Cheryl, all of Kansas City, David Pierce and wife, Mindy of Powell, Tenn., and Charles Pierce of Hayes Center; one daughter, Guylia Pierce of McCook; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Pierce of Kansas City and Clifford Pierce and wife, Adele of Grant City, Mo.; and one sister, Norma Hayden of Cottonwood, Ariz.
Guy will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2009, at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Keith Theobald officiating. Inurnment will be in the Danbury and Marion Cemetery at Danbury.
Memorials may be given in his name and friends may sign his register during regular business hours 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Home.
