June 27, 1918 - April 6, 2009

Camilla Celestine Pahl Orvis passed from this life on April 6, 2009, at her home in McCook.

Camilla was born June 27, 1918, to Mary and Arnold Pahl in Orafino, Neb. She graduated from Wilsonville High School.

Her marriage to Oliver Orvis Sept. 8, 1937, was a union that gave her four sons to raise. They were married nearly 35 years until Oliver's death in 1972. Many of those years, she was a homemaker and worked in the Wilsonville Public School Cafeteria. In 1961, she began her career in food service at McCook Junior College until her retirement in 1990.

On Dec. 22, 1974, she married Lawrence Orvis. To this union four more children joined her family.

Traveling was a special joy to both Camilla and Lawrence. They enjoyed many road trips, bus excursions and travel by air and cruise ship.

While Camilla's sons were in school, her love of athletics became more than just a past-time. Planning around football, basketball and track schedules was part of who she was. She was her sons' number one fan! She was also a huge Husker fan.

Camilla spent her life doing what she loved--raising and caring for her children, traveling and being a good partner.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Lawrence; two sons, Leland and wife, Carolyn of Oxnard, Calif., and Paul and wife, Shirley of Imperial; one daughter-in-law, Susan (Philip) of Kansas City, Mo.; stepchildren, Kathy Bergstrom and husband, Gary of Griswold, Iowa, Larry Orvis and wife, Jackie of Norfolk, Nancy Knutson and husband, Victor of Wilsonville, Kevin Orvis and wife, Sue of Hebron; two sisters, Phyllis Mitchell and Glenda Schultz and husband, Kenneth, all of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Herschel Pahl and wife, Bonnie of Ava, Mo.; brother-in-law, Omer Rucker (Melva) of Gresham; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
