Dec. 27, 1929 - Jan. 3, 2009

AURORA, Colo. -- Betty Jean Rowland, 78, of Aurora, Colo., died Jan. 3, 2009.

She was born Dec. 27, 1929, to Hershel and Irene Rowland. Betty grew up on a farm in McCook, a small town of 8,000 people. She remembers the summers being very hot and the winters being very cold, but she kept up her chores in spite of the weather.

Betty moved to Denver, Colo., in 1951, and worked for the telephone company when it was Mountain States, and as a bartender at the 12 Foot Inn. She enjoyed her years tending bar, because of the nice people she met and the friends she made.

The most challenging thing in her life was working with seniors, "because you have to figure out what they need, but it's so rewarding when you can help them."

Betty's advice to young people was to stay in school and listen to their parents, because they've been down that road before. She felt her life had been rewarding because of her family, with whom she stayed close, her friends and her work for the Companions at a daycare center.

Services were private.

Gordon Funeral Services of Littleton, Colo., is in charge of arrangements.
