Three McCook Community College women's basketball players were honored by the Nebraska Community College Athletic Association for their play during the 2008-09 season.

Skylar Johnson and Britney Bunker were named First Team all-NCCAC and Michelle Price was a Second Team all-NCCAC performer.

Johnson, a 5-foot-6 freshman from Colorado Springs, averaged 10 points and 3 assists a game for the Indians.

"Skylar was our floor general on offense," said MCC coach Benjamin Smith. "She did a great job of managing the game and putting the team on her back several times this year on the offensive end.

"The point guard position is without question the toughest on the floor and as a freshman she really excelled.

"She has a very bright future and her competitive edge will make her even more feared by point guards throughout the conference and region next year."

Bunker, a 5-8 freshman guard from Ellicott, Colo., averaged 15 points and 4 rebounds a game.

"Britney was our leading scorer and has a knack for making big plays in big moments," Smith said.

"She plays with an unmatched intensity to the game on both ends and has the ability to single-handedly change the outcome of a game.

"She has a chance to be one of the top guards in the region next year and will command special attention from opposing coaches and players on a nightly basis.

Price, a 5-8 freshman forward/guard from Frederick, Colo., averaged 4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals a game.

"Michele is our most versatile player," Smith said. "She is a defensive genius and can execute systems on both ends at every spot.

"Because of her length, athleticism and approach to the game she has tremendous potential that she is only beginning to tap into.

"Owing to her work ethic and determination, I believe that Michele will have a statistical breakout year next year and will be a crucial force for us as we pursue a Region IX championship."

The Indians posted an 8-20 record and lost to Otero Junior College 62-44 in the first round of the Region IX Tournament.
