Movie Review - Fast & Furious

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some sexual content, language and drug references.

Starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.

The Fast and The Furious franchise is known for one thing - fast, modified cars. The newest entry into the series, which would be the 4th one, is no exception to the rule. Last time, they got rid of the stars in exchange for a different flavor in Tokyo Drift. Now, they've dropped 'THE' from the title and brought back all the main stars from the first flick to deliver the goods again.

Overall, I've never really liked the Fast and the Furious flicks. I've always just kind of enjoyed watching them, but wouldn't necessarily say that I liked them. This movie is no different. It's very much the same old movie from before with a slightly different storyline. This time, Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) are once again on opposite sides of the law but end up reuniting to take on a common enemy. This adventure takes them across the world, but mostly centers in LA and Mexico as they get into a crime organization that wants them to drive drugs and money across the border without being detected by the authorities.

The best thing about these flicks is always the cars and the action that is staged to show off the cars. The movie starts pretty intense with some great special effects and high speed action. It slows down a bit with some build up but soon pops back into overdrive and only takes time to talk when some explaining needs to be done. This is a great movie to watch cars doing all kinds of special driving stunts, even if a good portion is CG.

As I said before, I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to any fan of the previous flicks as this one hits all the same high notes, but if you aren't a fan of cars or high speed action pieces - you might be bored during this film. Walker and Diesel are an interesting on screen team and while they aren't 'super-awesome' at acting in this, they do a believable job to prop up the real stars - the cars.

Fast & Furious is playing at Cinema 3 starting Friday - check out www.fridleytheatres.com for showtimes.
