McCook Public Schools employees Bev and Brent Klein show storm chaser/disaster preparedness trainer Dr. Eddie Weiss (center) a floor plan of McCook Elementary, seeking advise about where to put 400 children during a tornado. Bev, a kindergarten teacher, told Weiss she is concerned about the wide span of the gym roof, and Weiss agreed that the center hallway of the original North Ward portion of the school, the original gymnasium stage area (now lowered) and the inner administrative offices of the new north wing would be better locations for the school children and staff to take cover. Bev and Brent, a bus driver and a member of the school district's maintenance staff, discussed the possible installation of heavy doors at the south end of the hallway to prevent wind blowing from exterior doors on the west side of the building to the east side from throwing debris at school children; the north end of the hallway is already fitted with heavy doors. Weiss and members of his Chasing4Life team were in McCook Tuesday teaching storm preparedness to school children and then making a presentation to the public. His programs were sponsored by Great Plains Communications and the McCook Rotary Club
