Officers follow trail of litter in search of stolen trailer

Friday, March 27, 2009
TRENTON -- Hitchcock County sheriff's officers followed a trail of litter to Cheyenne County, Kan., in search of a stolen flatbed trailer and the fertilizer and chemicals on it.

Hitchcock County Sheriff Bryan Leggott reports that the 2001 black fifth-wheel flatbed PJ trailer was stolen from a farm nine miles south of Trenton on Highway 25 some time between March 1 and March 3.

The trailer was set up for fertilizer application, and contained several boxes of chemicals, two 250-gallon shuttle containers of chemicals, meters, pumps and straps. A Honda gasoline engine was also included.

Leggott said they discovered bits and pieces, boxes and jugs that fell off the trailer as the thief traveled country roads to Cheyenne County.

Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to contact Leggott's office, by phone at (308) 334-5444; by e-mail, sheriff967@mccooknet.com; or on the sheriff's Web site: hitchcockcountysheriff.org

Officers follow rail of litter in search of stolen trailer. Does this mean the trailer was on the railroad tracks or it was dropping railroad tracks or some other type of rails? Did they find the traier? You would think it would be easy to find with all those rails.
