CULBERTSON -- George Butherus went to live with his Savior on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at El Dorado Manor Home in Trenton, Neb., at the age of 83.

He was born Sept. 9, 1925, at Nekoma, Kan., the son of the late George and Anna Katherine (Weber) Butherus. George grew up in Kansas and Nebraska where he received his education.

On Dec. 29, 1946, George married Irva Leanna Wagner at Culbertson, Neb. For 56 years they farmed in the Culbertson Community.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson. For many years he served as President of the Culbertson School Board and enjoyed singing with the Prairie Statesmen Barber Shop Quartet. He was deeply devoted to his family, his church and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irva on Oct. 5, 2007. He has resided in El Dorado Manor for the past few years.

George is survived by five daughters, Patricia Welch and husband, Ben of Kearney, Neb., Dianna Korell and husband, Brad of Lincoln, Neb., Susan Ihrig and husband, Bob of Parker, Colo., and Marcia Spady and husband, Karl and Barbara Cooper and husband, Mike, all of Fort Collins, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, Angela (Welch) and husband, Will Prusia, Amy (Welch) and husband, Brian Briggs, Sarah (Welch) and husband, Andrew Williams, Benjamin Welch and wife, Nancy, Melissa (Korell) and husband, Ben Wright, Kevin Korell, Ryan Korell and wife, Jacque, Jennifer Ihrig, Marc Ihrig and wife, Christina, Matthew Ihrig and wife, Sarah, Dustin Spady, Brooke Cooper and Lacey Cooper; 13 great-grandchildren, Blake, Meghan and Keely Prusia, Taylor and Hayley Briggs, Alexandria and Emma Williams, John, George, James and Dianna Wright, Jacob Korell and Skyler Korell; relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in Culbertson from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
