OBERLIN -- J. Elwood Mines, 88, died Wednesday (March 11, 2009), at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
He was born Oct. 23, 1920, on the family farm in Decatur County to Joseph I. and Elta (Waldo) Mines. He was raised in Decatur County, attended West Liberty Grade School and graduated from Decatur Community High School.
On Dec. 12, 1943, he married Elaine Bradley. He farmed on the family farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Elaine.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Gosler of Mesa, Ariz., and Nancy and husband, Ron Baumfalk of Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Don and wife, Ann Mines of Oberlin; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlotte Strecker-Baseler officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Visitation is Monday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., and Tuesday, 8 a.m., until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elwood Mines Memorial Fund.
