KEARNEY -- University of Nebraska-Kearney senior guard Jade Meads has been named a finalist for the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) State Farm Division II All-America team.

A total of 41 players, voted upon by WBCA coaches in each of Division II's eight regions, were selected. Seven regions had five players selected; one region had a tie for fifth place so six players were chosen.

In Region 7, Meads and Regis senior post Paulina Tuell were the RMAC players selected. Heather Johnson and Joanne Noreen of Minnesota State and Katie Tacheny of St. Cloud State round out the all-region team.

The 2009 RMAC Player of the Year, Meads (Elm Creek) currently leads the 20-9 Lopers in scoring (18.8) and rebounding (8.3) while ranking third in steals (39) and threes made (25).

The 10-member All-America team will be announced on March 23rd at the Elite Eight in San Antonio, Texas.

UNK plays Minnesota State-Moorhead Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The complete Division II all-region team can be found at www.wbca.org.

Happy for Jade. Great player! Don't know if I missed it in McCook Paper or not. Debi Johnson (Elsie) former Perkins County and current UNK freshman was selected RMAC Freshman of the Year. We are proud of her. Julie Johnson
