Thank you for your prayers

Monday, March 9, 2009

Dear Nebraskans,

Stephanie and I will never be able to fully convey to you just how much your support means to us and to our family. There is something special about Nebraskans, a caring and compassion that I can't imagine being as vibrant in other parts of the country.

We both want you to know how grateful we are, along with our entire family, for your thoughts and prayers. There is no doubt in our minds these prayers were answered. As many of you know, last week I underwent surgery after doctors became concerned about a spot on my left lung. This spot was originally discovered during a routine check-up at the end of November. Doctors monitored the spot and last week they determined that an operation would be best. Stephanie and I are thrilled to be able to tell you the spot was not cancerous and has been removed as a precaution.

Now, I am following doctor's orders to rest and take things a little slower as I work toward a full recovery. I am keeping up-to-date on all the latest news in the Senate so I won't miss a beat when I get back to the office. There is important work to be done and I am looking forward to returning to the office and getting back to work.

There can be no question that a scare like this changes how you look at the world. It gives you a much deeper appreciation of life and relationships. I know I have been blessed in my life and I want you to know how much I value the friendships we have made and how incredibly honored I am to represent you in U.S. Senate.

Stephanie and I are looking forward to seeing you again very soon, and having the opportunity to express our deep gratitude to you in person. We are truly touched to know so many of you are keeping us in your prayers. How fortunate we are to call Nebraska home.

Sincerely,

Mike and Stephanie Johanns
