STRATTON -- Ned C. Johnson, 87, died Sunday (Feb. 22, 2009) at Sara Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.

He was born March 25, 1921, at Alton, Mo., to James Edward Johnson and Lola Mae Wheeler. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during World War II and received his honorable discharge in 1945.

On Sept. 9, 1944, he married Bertha Leona Prewitt at Hardy, Ark. He worked most of his life as a finish carpenter.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lola Mae Johnson; his wife, Bertha Leona; one son, Jerry Johnson; brothers, Boyd Uel Johnson and Nolan "Bill" Johnson; sisters, Lucy Glee Johnson and Marian M. Evans.

Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn Criger and husband, Kenneth of Stratton; two sons, Perry Johnson of Montana and Bobby Johnson of Nevada; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers, James Johnson, Glen Johnson, Don Johnson and wife, Joann of Missouri, Phillip Paul Johnson of Texas; one sister, Jessie Mae Burkhead of Missouri; sister-in-law, Evelyn Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. (CST) at Taylor Cemetery in Ravenden, Ark. No local services are planned.
