ALMENA, Kan. -- Robin Lee Johnson, 57, died Wednesday (Feb. 18, 2009) at his home in Almena, Kan.
He was born July 3, 1951, to Robert Leroy and Helen Louise (Sidles) Johnson in Bird City, Kan. He grew up on the family farm near McDonald, Kan., and graduated from McDonald Rural High School. He moved to Colby, Kan., and attended Colby Community College for one semester before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He trained at Fort Lewis, Wash., and in 1970 was deployed to Germany to do missile repair during the Viet Nam War. After his discharge, he returned to McDonald where he worked in drilling.
In 1972, he married Judy Domsch in marriage in Atwood, and made their home in McDonald. In 1975, he married Connie Horn in Atwood and they made their home in McDonald, Bird City and McCook.
In 1991, he married Gwen Schmutzok in McCook and they made their home in Bartley and McCook. She preceded him in death on June 24, 2004.
He was an active member of the 12-step groups (AA and NA) and was a Special Education paraprofessional at the McCook High School for 11 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Helen Johnson of McDonald; four children, Julie and husband, Dan Burns of McCook, Si and wife, Staci Johnson of Holdrege, Hilary and husband, Matt Van Patten of Almena and Robin Johnson Jr., of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Ron Johnson and Rod and wife, Lisa Johnson, all of McDonald; eight grandchildren; other relatives; and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m., at First Church of God in McCook with the Rev. Kirk Kasson officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be given to SWATS in McCook and may be sent to Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
