Post Office burglars strike plea bargain

Two of the three defendants charged in the burglary of the U.S. Post Office in Bartley Oct. 30 have struck a plea bargain.

Miranda Ranae Vanderpool, 23, address unavailable and Jonathan William Weems, 19, of Cambridge, were both charged with the Class III felony of burglary. In Red Willow County District Court on Tuesday, both pleaded guilty in plea agreements, Vanderpool to the lesser charge of accessory to a felony, a Class IV felony and Weems to the original charge.

Sentencing is set for both on April 6, 10:30 a.m., for Weems and 11 a.m. for Vanderpool.

Kacey Maret, age and address unavailable, was charged with two Class III felonies in connection to the break-ins Oct. 8 at the U.S. Post Office in Bartley and the Bartley Village Office. A jury trial is scheduled for March 17.

Also seen in District Court was Joseph M. Blake, 24, of 524 W. First, who was sentenced on a drug charge.

Blake was charged with possession of a controlled substance, methampheta-mine, a Class IV felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction.

In a plea agreement, Blake pleaded guilty to the infraction with the first charge dismissed.

Blake was sentenced to a $100 fine plus court costs.
