W-P teams sweep Maywood

MAYWOOD -- The Wauneta-Palisade boys basketball team improved to 12-8 with a 61-45 win at Maywood Saturday.

The Broncos placed four players in double figures.

Chris Bartels and Drew Harris each scored 14 points. TJ Ellicott and Ricky martin each scored 12.

The Maywood Tigers fell to 6-12. Kelvin Arent scored 12 points, Danny Stinman 10, Trent Whitman 9 and Brandon Arent 9.

Maywood plays at McPherson County-Tryon Friday. Wauneta-Palisade hosts Dundy County.

WAUNETA -- The Class D1 No. 7 ranked Wauneta-Palisade girls slip past Class D2 No. 6 ranked Maywood 42-37 Saturday.

Blair Dixon led Wauneta-Palisade with 14 points.

Melody Norgaard scored 12 points for Maywood. Makayla Gardner added 10.

"The girls really worked hard tonight and played some serious defense," said Maywood Tiger girls coach Kim Stengel.

"We rebounded well and took care of the ball. The fourth quarter scoring fell short and we didn't hit free throws and layups when we needed them."

Carli Holt scored 11 points for Alma(12-9).

ST. FRANCIS -- The Rawlins County-Atwood boys rolled past St. Francis 73-47 Friday night at St. Francis.

The Buffaloes improved to 16-2.

Elijah Kastens fired in seven 3-pointers and led Rawlins County with 25 points.

Drew Basgall fired in 16 points for the Buffaloes, Marcus Cahoj 14 and Brenon Johnson 10.

Trent Kinen led St. Francis with 20 points, including three 3-pointers. Matt Raile added 10 points and Trent Raile 9.

Rawlins County hosts Colby on Friday.

St. Francis will play at Cheylin Tuesday and Quinter Friday.
