OBERLIN -- David J. McGee, 81, died Tuesday (Feb. 10, 2009) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
He was born Aug. 11, 1927, in McCook to Walter W. and Olive (Wade) McGee. He grew up in Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1947.
He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After his service he lived in Norton, Kan., before moving to Oberlin. In August of 1948, he married Eva Corcoran.
On June 3, 1967, he married Hilda (Madden) Tyrrell. He operated McGee Furniture and Floor Covering.
He was a member of the United Church of Oberlin, Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70 and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Olive McGee, wife, Hilda in 2007 and infant brother, Lowell McGee.
Survivors include his son, Mike and wife, Sharon McGee of Houston, Texas; two step-sons, James and wife, Mary Tyrrell and John Tyrrell, all of Cameron, Mo.; two daughters, Kathleen (Garth) Conroe of Montrose, Colo., and Patricia Horning of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Enid Foland of Almena, Kan.; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at United Church of Oberlin with the Rev. Judi Stricker officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center.
