OBERLIN -- Doris Alene Black, 83, died Saturday (Feb. 7, 2009) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
She was born June 7, 1925, in rural Oberlin to Earl and Mabel (McClellan) Wilson. She grew up in the Traer and Oberlin communities and attended rural grade school. She graduated fron Decatur Community High School.
She taught in a rural school and at Dresden, Kan., for three years. She later sold World Book Encyclopedias for many years and won many trips and awards.
In August 1946, she married Harold Ockerman, he preceded her in death. On Aug. 2, 1985, she married Edwin Black in Farmington, N.M.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Oberlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harold; daughter, Judy; brother, Muriel; sister, Bernice; step-son, Lee Mockry; and step-grandson, Monty Mockry.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin of Oberlin; one son Wilson and wife, Betty Ockerman of Kirkland, N.M.; two step-children, Lyle Black of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Sharon (Mockry) Stevenson of Oberlin; two brothers, Gordon Wilson of Oberlin and Floyd Wilson of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; three step-great-granddaughters; and relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at Assembly of God Church in Oberlin. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church today from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the church.
