McCook Bison eighth grade boys teams power by Ogallala, Lexington

OGALLALA/McCOOK -- McCook's eighth grade boys basketball teams tallied up more wins Tuesday and Thursday night.

The Bison won the A and B games against Ogallala, before beating Lexington.

The Bison C game also took out Gothenburg but did not play against Ogallala.

Bison vs. Ogallala

Sean Backer posted up 12 points for the Bison in the A game.

Marcus Gonzales added 10 and Austin Cherry 8.

"The team really got off to a great start," said Bison coach Bill Ramsay. "We executed our half court offense and hit some open shots.

"Defensively we were very aggressive and played a great team defense. We controlled the offensive and defensive boards.

Mitch Collicott and Luke Post teamed up in the B game for the Bison. Both boys scored 6 points.

"The players did a good job of being aggressive," Ramsay said. "Our secondary fast break created some easy scoring opportunities throughout the game. We did a good job of controlling the tempo of the game."

Bison vs. Gothenburg

Backer returned to the floor to lead the Bison A team again with 11 points.

Jake Schlager and Gonzales both had 6 and Cherry and Zayne Gillen had 5.

"The team did a good job of playing pressure defense and limiting Gotheburg to one shot," Ramsay said.

"We did a nice job of pushing the ball and keeping the game at a up tempo pace that we like to play.

"All year our depth as been a big factor and again tonight the kids coming in off the bench did a great job for us."

Manuel Rodriguez led the Bison B team. Rodriguez had 13 points and Chris Hoffman followed up with 10.

"The B team played their best game of the season," said Ramsay.

"We did a great job of pushing the ball up the court offensively and hitting the open man for the easy basket.

"Defensively we caused Gothenburg problems with the constant pressure."

Cade Hiatt and Cameron Burkey led the Bison C team. Both boys had 4 points.

"The C team played their best game of the year," Ramsay said.

"The players are becoming more confident and looking for the open shot and running the offense to create some good scoring."
