WICHITA, Kan. -- Raymond Roger Evans, 88, formerly of Wichita Kan., died Tuesday (Feb. 3, 2009) at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
He was born Feb. 11, 1920, to Eska Eugene and Minnie O. Evans in Freedom.
He served in the Army from March 12, 1942 until Feb. 12, 1946, which included two years with the Army Air Force Corps as a First Lieutenant.
He piloted and commanded C-47 Military Cargo Aircraft in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. During his military career he received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He married Glendola A. Scott on Sept.14, 1942, in Urbana, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children in infancy, Joy and Ray Evans, his wife, Glendola Evans and one grandchild, Brandon Evans.
Survivors include one son, Dallas Evans and wife, Reta of Lowell, Kan..; one daughter, Judy Hubbard of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Eugene Evans and wife Virginia of North Platte; one sister, Shirley Moore of Salem, Ore.., five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services are Saturday at 10 a.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with the Rev. Frank Penna officiating. Interment is in the Hayes Center Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday until 8 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with the family receiving visitors from 7 - 8 p.m.
