JENNINGS -- Roger L. Shimek, 75, died Sunday (Feb. 1, 2009) in Kearney.

He was born Nov. 1, 1933, on the family farm in Decatur County to Willie and Ellen (Cilek) Shimek. He grew up in the Jennings area and graduated from Jennings High School in 1952. He attended Kansas State University and Fort Hayes State University, graduating in 1962.

On Nov. 27, 1963, he married Dorothy Vernon in McCook. They lived on the family farm near Jennings, where he was a farmer.

He was a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church, Jennings American Legion, Jennings Czech Memorial Museum Board, Jennings School Board, Farm Bureau Board and Allison Township Board.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Shimek, brother, Billie Raye and brother-in-law, Randall Amack.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Jennings; mother-in-law, Florine Vernon of Oberlin; sons, Michael Shimek of Dallas, Texas and Stanley Shimek of Lansing, Kan.; daughter, Tammy and husband, Eugene Parrish of Wellington; sister, Mary Ann Amack of Oberlin; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 3 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Richard Vernon officiating. Interment will be in the Jennings Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Thursday until time of service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Jennings Czech Memorial Museum.
