ARAPAHOE -- Helen C. Cunningham, 94, died Thursday (Jan. 29, 2009), at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.
She was born March 20, 1914 in Furnas County near Cambridge to Herman P. and Lean (Rupp) Heisleman.
She grew up in the Cambridge area and attended school at Cambridge High School, graduating with the Class of 1932.
On Nov. 15, 1934, she married Vernon A. "Sam" Cunningham at the Methodist Church in Cambridge. They moved to Arapahoe in 1946 when they started Cunningham Feed & Produce. They owned and operated the business for 50 years. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 2002. She later moved to the Good Samaritan Assisted Living and then to C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Arapahoe. She was also a member and past president of PEO Chapter C.E. of Arapahoe and was a member of the Arapahoe Chamber of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
Survivors include a son, John of Arapahoe; a sister Faye Loreen Lockenour of Arapahoe; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will follow at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Visitation and viewing is Saturday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday, 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe; and Monday, prior to services at the church.
