McCook 9th grade girls 1-1 against North Platte

The McCook High School freshman girls basketball A team lost to North Platte 49-23 Thursday night at McCook and the B team won 25-17.

The Bison A team was led in scoring by Shelby Allen and Taylor Matson with 6 points each. Sierra Ortiz and Rachel Bradley both added 3. McCook was led in rebounding by Ortiz with 6. Erin Wright and Bradley each had 5 boards and Taylor 4.

"We were came out very flat, and played the first quarter with little emotion," said McCook freshman girls coach Jon Graff. "We started to get going in the second quarter and closed the score to 15-11, but then gave up several layups and ended the first half poorly. We played better in the second half, but the damage was done."

The North Platte A team is 10-0. Kaitlan Anderson led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Kenzie Michaels added 11 and Natalie Poppe 10.

The McCook B team was led in scoring by KathrAnn Sides with 8 points. Portia Jameson and Aubrey Rieman both added 4.

"They ran the offense well and took lots of good shots," Graff said. "Defensively they moved well and rebounded hard. The girls really stepped up in the fourth quarter and played hard down the stretch. I was glad to seem them get the win in this one."

Jessica Nichols led the North Platte B team with 6 points.
