ARAPAHOE -- Ambrose W. Meyers, 90, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 2009) at Cambridge Hospital.
He was born July 15, 1918, in Gosper County to William H. and Emilie J. (Monter) Meyers. He attended school at Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School north of Arapahoe. After school he helped his family on the farm.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his service duty, he returned to the family farm.
On June 29, 1947, he married Ethel E. Rader at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis. They made their home north of Arapahoe and farmed for many years. They moved into Arapahoe in 1975.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Eustis and American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Leon Meyers; granddaughter, Elizabeth Meyers; daughter-in-law, Rita Meyers; sister, Leona Imig; and infant brother, Duane Eugene Meyers.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Arapahoe; sons, Charles and wife, Kay of Red Cloud and Daniel and wife, Julie of Kearney; daughters, Linda and husband, David DeOss of Columbus and Sharol and husband, Gary Banzhaf of Cozad; daughter-in-law, Florence Rozendal of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with the Rev. Beverly C. Rautenberg-Panko officiating. Interment will be Immanuel Cemetery north of Arapahoe with military rites given by the American Legion Post No 343 of Edison.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Thursday.
