Commissioners to hear another jail presentation, update on kit company

Friday, January 23, 2009
Red Willow County commissioners will listen to another presentation on a county jail and get an update on Pawnee Aviation loans at their weekly meeting Monday, starting at 9 a.m., in the commissioners' room on the third floor of the courthouse in McCook.

At 11 a.m., Mike Wicht of Prochaska & Associates of Omaha will revisit the size and scope of the county/city jail proposal that failed to impress voters in November 2006. A similar presentation was made to commissioners, by HMN Architects of Overland Park, Kan., on Jan. 12.

At 9:50 a.m., County Attorney Paul Wood will report to commissioners the status of the county's lawsuit against Pawnee Aviation, a helicopter kit company that owes $366,595.41 to the county's revolving loan program. Two loans are in foreclosure.

In other action, commissioners will discuss:

* New office space in the building north of the courthouse.

* A change order for the McCook Southwest bridge over Driftwood Creek.

* Signage on county bridges.

* Approval of the county's flood plain ordinances.

* An estimate of wind damage to the county shop in Bartley.

* The fair board's financial report for July 1-Dec. 31, 2008.

* Motor vehicle, personal and real estate tax exemptions and extending the date for filing property taxes for the Bartley Development Corp.

* A juvenile justice county aid grant and a request for continued funding from Lutheran Family Services.

* Employees' supplemental insurance plans.

* Continuation of the bond for Frankie Lou Nicholson, clerk/treasurer for the Village of Lebanon.

* Approval of a rider for a bond number change on the Historical Society bond for Korey Burkert.
