McCook High School Bison sophomore guard Connor Larson lit up the Phillipsburg, Kan., Panthers for 10 3-pointers and 37 points Tuesday night, but the best part for Larson was that his team pulled off a 67-61 victory in front of the hometown fans at the MHS gymnasium.

Included in Larson's 10 treys was a 50-foot heave that swished as the buzzer sounded for halftime and tied the score at 27-27.

Larson ended up making 10-of-15 trey attempts, 3-of-4 2-pointers and 1-of-2 free throws.

Larson missed the school record for points in a game, which is 40 set by Roger Leitner during the 1964-65 season.

The school record for 3-pointers in a game is not listed on the record board posted on the wall outside MHS gymnasium.

"It was a good breakout win for us," Larson said. "We pulled it out and that's what matters."

How did Larson feel being "in the zone" against Phillipsburg?

"It feels like when the ball leaves your hand, it's going in." Larson said. "It's a great feeling."

Garcia said Larson's performance was part of a team effort.

"This was a nice team performance and Connor's achievement -- a great individual performance -- had a lot to do with the team passing up shots to find him," Garcia said.

"Several times during the game I witnessed players passing up shots to look for Connor and making the extra pass to get him the shot.

"Players were being unselfish. As a coach, that is a great feeling to know your players are playing as a team, not a bunch of individuals worrying about themselves."

Ryan Hardin finished with 9, Dustin Parde 7, Seth Schaeffer 6, Matt Berry 4 and Zach Wieser 4.

Hardin and Parde each had 6 rebounds. Berry and Larson each had 5 rebounds, Schaeffer 4, Wieser 2 and Dillon Goltl 2. Larson had 2 steals.

McCook made 25-of-59 field goals, including 10-of-24 field goals, and 7-of-14 free throws.

The Panthers feature a Kansas all-state caliber player in Dylan Frantz, who scored 18 points against the Bison -- 4 points under his season average.

Chance Keiswetter and Ben Suchsland each scored 12 points and Steven Craig added 8.

McCook improved to 6-4.

The Bison boys will host Hershey Friday and play at Sidney Saturday.

Game times are 7:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
