ARAPAHOE -- Mary Jo Janssen, 72, died Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2008) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
She was born Nov. 14, 1936, at Holdrege, to Earl S. and Lucile M. (Buckley) Frost. She grew up in the Arapahoe area and attended Arapahoe High School graduating in 1954. She went on to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and received her teaching degree.
On June 17, 1957, she married Wally Janssen in Los Angeles, Calif. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., for one year and then to Lexington for several years where she taught elementary school. They would live in Gothenburg and McCook for several years.
While in McCook, she taught Special Education for the public school system. They moved to Kearney for a couple of years where she returned to school at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. They moved to Arapahoe and for 24 years they owned and managed the hardware store. In 1999, they moved back to Kearney.
She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Kearney.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Wally Janssen of Kearney; Gary and wife, Susanne Janssen of Alma; brother, Doug and wife, Jan Frost of Fort Collins, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. David Otten officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation is today until 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the services on Saturday at the church.
