ARAPAHOE -- Donald C. Hambidge, 81, of Arapahoe, died Monday (Dec. 29, 2008) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born Aug. 7, 1927, on the family farm north of Arapahoe in Gosper County to Archie L. and Bertha F. (Hoffman) Hambidge. He attended country school at Snyder School in Gosper County and graduated in 1944, from Arapahoe High School.
He was baptized at the Episcopal-Methodist Church in Arapahoe in February of 1928, by Rev. R. P. Fegan. He was confirmed on June 20, 1937, at the United Methodist Church in Arapahoe.
He married Carol Jean Cross on Nov. 29, 1953, at the Edison Christian Church in Edison. They lived in Arapahoe for seven years and then moved to the family farm north of Arapahoe, which was part of the farm that his grandfather homesteaded where he farmed and ranched.
He was a 70 year member of First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe and a member of the Arapahoe Grange; serving as president and in other offices. He served on the Edison Co-op board for nine years, and the Gosper County Weed Board. He was also a member of Phelps-Gosper Pork Producers and the Arapahoe Lion's Club. In 1986, his farm received the Aksarben Pioneer Farm Award.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorthy Oxford; brothers-in-law, Delbert Oxford and Allan Dodson; and grandson Chadd Hambidge.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean Hambidge of Arapahoe; sons, Randall and wife, Darcy Hambidge of Arapahoe and Brian and wife, Deb Hambidge of Elwood; daughter, Rita and husband, Don Adam of Oskaloosa, Kan.; sister, Doloris Dodson of Nathrop, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. George Probasco officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
