Hitchcock County boys fall to Brady

TRENTON -- The Hitchcock County boys basketball team dropped to 1-5 on the season with a 78-53 loss to Brady Thursday at home.

"Brady came out shooting very well," said coach Mike Tines.

"They hit five 3-points in the first quarter and we were playing catch up the rest of the game. The boys played very hard and were competitive the whole game. We just need to shoot a little better percentage and we will be right in these type of games."

Zach Cruz scored 20 points for the Falcons. Clive Brown added 11 points and Cale Brown 10.

The Hitchcock County varsity girls basketball team defeated Brady 40-34.

Hitchcock County will host Medicine Valley Saturday.

Sutherland girls 42, Wallace 34

SUTHERLAND -- The Sutherland Sailor boys fought off the Wallace Wildcats Thursday and improved to 3-2.

Sutherland's Logan Simmerman led all scorers with 19 points. Teammate Austin Boggs had 10.

Sean May was the leading scorer for Wallace (1-4) with 17 points.

SUTHERLAND -- The Sutherland girls outscored Wallace 17-7 in the first quarter en route to a 39-34 victory Thursday to notch their first win of the season.

Wallace battled back in the second quarter to get within four points at halftime. The teams fought evenly in the third quarter but Wallace scored one more bucket than the Sailors to get within two.

Sutherland hit 6-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter and 10-of-13 overall. Wallace made 3-of-12 free throws for the game, including 1-of-5 in the fourth quarter.

Nicole Hornyak scored 13 points for Sutherland and Jacqueline Frary had 11. Katie West scored 11 to lead Wallace.
