Six Bison JV wrestlers place first at frosh/soph meet
The McCook High School junior varsity wrestling team hosted a freshman/sophomore meet Thursday night at the MHS gymnasium.
Among the first-place winners for the Bison were John Scott, Jake Fahrenbruch, Tyler Rogers, Keldon Osterman, Keegan Haarberg and Derek Chancellor.
Seconbd place went to Ridge Abbott and Ross Stewart. Third place went to Kyle Groshong, Luke Mabile and Tony Brown. Placing fourth were Shane Buck and Austin Swartz.
"The Bison were able to showcase their talents for the home crowd," said McCook wrestling coach Nick Umscheid. "Overall this was a good experience for our younger wrestlers. Many of them did an excellent job and continue to show improvement every week they step on the mat.
"Many of them also are making mistake that are costing them wins in matches but they need to remember that they are young and with time and hard work they can correct those mistakes.
"On the night we crowned six champions out of the 13 wrestlers competing. Hopefully this will refuel their excitement and motivate them to better themselves over the Christmas break."
The Bison varsity will compete one more time before the Christmas break at the Valentine Invitational Saturday. The meet starts at 10 a.m.
