Rollover accident

McCook firefighter/paramedic Shane Smith, above, holds the splinted hand of Lavone Rozmiarek who was injured late Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle rollover accident on a graveled county road seven miles northwest of McCook. Bob Hart said he was out hunting pheasants when he came upon Rozmiarek's car in the ditch. "She could have been in there quite a while," Hart said. Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Neal Golden's report indicated that Rozmiarek was eastbound on Road 721 at about 11:25 a.m., when she went into the south ditch and then overcorrected. The car went into a yaw, slid sideways and faced west in the south ditch, dug into the embankment and flipped onto the driver's side. Emergency responders from McCook Fire and Rescue and the Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to improve responders' access to Rozmiarek, who was trapped inside. Rozmiarek was transported to Community Hospital of McCook, where nursing services reported Tuesday afternoon that she was held for treatment. Rozmiarek's 1996 Oldsmobile 88 was totaled. Golden's report indicates that Rozmiarek was wearing a seat belt. The car's airbags deployed.
