ARAPAHOE -- H. Wayne McCoy, 75, died Tuesday (Nov. 18, 2008) at his home in Arapahoe from complications due to congestive heart failure.

He was born Feb. 11, 1933, to Harley W. and Hazel (Elston) McCoy on the family farm south of Arapahoe.

He graduated from the eighth grade at District No. 64 County School, and graduated in 1950 from Arapahoe High School. After graduation, he farmed with his father until he was drafted in the U. S. Army in April of 1953.

He was in Korea from November of 1953 until March of 1955. He was promoted to Sergeant 1st Class and honorably discharged in March of 1955. After he came home from Korea, he began farming and raising cattle. He farmed until he was diagnosed with esophagus cancer in 1994. On Nov. 26, 1980, he married Charlavee Markus in Arapahoe.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Junior Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post No. 96, all of Arapahoe. He was named Farmer of the Year for the Arapahoe area. FSA Board member, Nebraska Corn Growers Board member, Arapahoe Coop Board member and Furnas County Livestock Board member.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Beth Alayne; sister, Arva Holloway; brother-in-laws, Kenneth Holloway and Lyle Roepke; sister-in-law, Fritz McCoy; and mother-in-law, Beulah Kappas.

Survivors include his wife, Charlavee McCoy of Arapahoe; sons, David McCoy and fiancee, Michelle Kohlhof of Aurora, Andrew and wife, Tracy McCoy of Lincoln and Ron and wife, Janet Markus of West Monroe, La.; daughters, Cynthia and husband, Scott Gaskill of Aurora and Lisa and husband, Todd Schutz of Arapahoe; brothers, Victor and wife, Maxine McCoy of Kearney and Neal McCoy of Arapahoe; sisters, June Roepke of Kearney and Mona and husband, Dan Mousel of Edison; brother-in-law, Charles and wife, Shirley Kappas of Klamath Falls, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery with Military rites given by the American Legion Post No. 96 of Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation is today until 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., with family greeting the public from 5-7 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church.
