Pit bull put down after biting child

Monday, November 17, 2008
An attack by a family dog sent a 2-year old McCook boy to Community Hospital with severe injuries.

McCook City Police Chief Ike Brown confirmed today that the unprovoked attack happened Wednesday inside a family residence on the 1400 block of West 10th.

Police were called after the family pet, a pit bull, attacked the child around the face and neck about 1 p.m.

Brown called the injuries substantial but not life-threatning.

At the request of the owners, the dog was put down and tested for rabies. The tests came back negative. Brown did not release the name of the family.
