DCS, Cambridge to play for C2-11 sub-district title

Three area Southwest Nebraska high school volleyball sub-district finals ended, while the D1-12, D1-11 and C2-11 teams competed in the semifinals Tuesday night. The three districts will play in the finals on Thursday.

McCOOK -- C2-11

Cambridge, North Platte St. Pats, Dundy County-Stratton and Southwest battled it out in the C2-11 semifinals in McCook.

Cambridge rolled by North Platte St. Pats in 3-of-4 sets 18-25, 29-27, 25-11, 25-17.

"This was an exciting win for us," said Cambridge coach Judy Mousel. "We have really developed a team these past three weeks and I hope it pays off for the girls this week."

Chelsey Moyer totaled 16 points for the Trojans' win. She also led the team in digs with 21. Dani Carpenter followed with 11 points and had 9 digs and Traci Keyser had 17 digs, 7 ace blocks and 26 kills.

Bailey Soucie made 49 assists and 13 digs and Frankie Petersen had 19 kills, 20 digs and 4 ace blocks. Jericca Lewis had 12 digs and 3 ace blocks and Lisa Malchow had 2 assists and 2 ace blocks.

Dundy County-Stratton also blew by Southwest in the C2-11 in three straight sets 25-19, 25-14, 25-23.

"We played very poorly," said Southwest coach Dennis Troester. "Poor serve receive did not allow us to run any offense and we also played bad on defense. Dundy County totally dominated us."

Mariah Longnecker led Southwest against DCS with 6 points, 8 digs and 18 assists. Megan Conway and Abby Houghtelling teamed up with 5 points each. Conway led in digs with 9 and had 6 kills and Jordan Brooks had 7 digs. Houghtelling and Darcie Hayes both had 3 blocks.

Cambridge and DCS will compete for the sub-district title Thursday.

COZAD -- D1-11

Eustis-Farnam beat out Overton 3-2 in the D1-11 semifinals.

The Knights will play Bertrand in the finals Thursday. Bertrand went 3-0 over Elwood.

OGALLALA -- D1-12

Hitchcock County and Wauneta-Palisade will go head to head in the D1-12 finals Thursday night.

The Broncos defeated No. 1 seed Leyton 3-0, while No. 2 seed Hitchcock County took out Crawford.

GERING -- C1-12

Chase County fell short to Gordon-Rushville 3-2 in the C1-12. Gordon-Rushville will continue into the district tournament.

SIDNEY -- C2-12

Perkins County also came up short to Bridgeport 3-1 in the C2-12.

GRANT -- D2-10

Wallace and Paxton squared off in the D2-10 finals with Paxton taking the win 3-0.
