KEARNEY -- Robert L. Ridgway, 90, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 2008) at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney.
He was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Decatur County to Wesley and Flora (Bolin) Ridgway. He grew up in Oberlin and graduated from Decatur County High School in 1936.
On May 26, 1940, he married Maxine McKenzie in Oberlin. He was a veteran of World War II serving the U.S. Air Force in the European Theatre from 1943 -- 1945. He entered the service on Feb. 16, 1943, and was discharged on Oct. 25, 1945.
Following his discharge, he and his wife lived in McDonald, Kan., Beaver City and Alma before moving to Ravenna where he owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store for 25 years. They moved to Kearney in 1981, where he worked at ABC Drug Store until retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney, V.F.W Lodge, Kearney Elks Lodge No. 984 and was a member of the Ravenna Chamber of Commerce.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Lou Ridgway; brothers, Gayle, Leo and Voyle Ridgway; and sisters, Pearl Ridgway, Ruby McCaine, Hazel Smith and Nola Garver.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Ridgway of Kearney; son, Hal and wife, Doris Elena Ridgway of Lantana, Fla.,; brother, Joe Ridgway of Ventura, Calif.; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m., at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney with the Rev. Michelle Reed officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m., at the Oberlin Cemetery with military rites given by American Legion Post No. 70.
