Mildred Verna Heskett, 91, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 2008) at Good Samaritan Center at Arapahoe.
She was born June 21, 1917, in Red Willow County at St. Ann to William Clayton and Goldie (Smith) Heskett. She grew up at St. Ann, where she graduated from rural school.
She married Ed Parker. They later divorced.
On April 3, 1948, she married Joe Carfield. In September 1954, he adopted her two sons, Larry and Stanley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1993; three brothers, Marvin, Melvin and Alvin Heskett; and two sisters, Myrle Haigwood and Berniece Clark.
Survivors include her sons, Larry and Stanley Carfield; brother, Kenneth Heskett and wife, Patsy of Chico, Calif.; two sisters, Eleanor Ranson and husband, Ira of Brigham City, Utah and Maxine Stevens of McCook; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday at First Baptist Church in McCook with the Rev. Allan Jackson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
