OBERLIN -- Ruth (Nicodemus) Laidig, 94, died Oct. 30, 2008 at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
She was born July 13, 1914, in rural Decatur County to Homer and Vida (Park) Nicodemus. She was raised in the Villiona area and in Decatur County. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1932.
On May 1, 1953, she married Floyd Laidig in Randall, Kan. They lived on the Laidig homestead in rural Decatur County until moving to Oberlin in 1979.
She was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church; Hearth and Home Extension Club; KT Card Club; American Legion Auxiliary; Oberlin Chapter No. 106 Eastern Star; NW Kansas Director HEC; and was a 4-H leader.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd, three brothers, Vyrl, Keith and Neil Nicodemus; a sister, Lois Fisher Haase; a son-in-law, Richard Walker; two infant grandchildren; a step-granddaughter and step-great-grandchild.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenva and husband, Harold Nichols of Oberlin, Janice and husband, Ernie Mehl of North Platte, and Fausta Walker of Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 3 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will follow at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, 3-8 p.m. and Monday at 8 a.m., until the time of the service.
