A Carnival cruise ship looks to be sailing into sunny weather, wherever its port of call may be. A six day cruise for two is one of the more than 20 auction packages and 14 silent auction items up for bid Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Republican River Valley Event Center, during the 10th annual An Evening for Hospice.

Planes, trains and automobiles just aren't going to cut it this year at An Evening for Hospice.

Add in cruise ships, bicycles, white water rafts and a paddle boat, and you know you're going somewhere, somehow.

The auction packages for An Evening for Hospice Sunday, Nov. 9, just keep getting bigger, according to Terri Shipshock, executive director of Community Hospital Health Foundation.

"Everything is coming together wonderfully," Shipshock said, "We've got some beautiful packages for auction."

Whether it's the splendor of the Black Hills, the brilliance of the Las Vegas Strip, the smooth ride of the River City Star or the excitement of white water rafting through the Royal Gorge, the "Life is a Journey" theme certainly travels well.

For those who prefer to travel closer to home, there is a "Night to Remember" in the luxury suite at the Chief, with comfort and spa items provided. For those who like to stay fit while they travel, his and her bicycles and a year's membership at the YMCA are just part of the "Going Places" package.

With a preliminary count of 22 auction items and 14 silent auction packages confirmed, the hospice committee, hard at work since July, is turning its attention to the gala event itself. A captain's hat has been provided for Jim Ulrich, CEO of Community Hospital, and he will take the helm at the Republican River Valley Event Center at 5:30 p.m., Nov. 9, for the social hour. Sehnerts Bakery and Beiroc Cafe will provide dinner, with guests escorted to the buffet tables by members of the National Honor Society, beginning at 6 p.m.

Auctioneer Dennis Youngs will start the auction at 7 p.m., with Cal Seigfried serving as emcee.
