CAMBRIDGE -- Merlin L. Wilmot "Wimpy" 79, of Wilsonville, died Saturday (Oct. 18, 2008) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 19, 1929, on a farm south of Wilsonville, to Everett and Helen (Miller) Wilmot. He graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1946. After that he attended Radio School in Omaha, then returned to Wilsonville.
He was married to Mary McConnell on Dec 6, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Oxford.
He farmed for several years, then went into the trucking business, until his health failed and he retired.
He was a member of the Wilsonville Methodist Church. He served on the board and was the treasurer. He was a Boy Scout leader and a 50-year-member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Morris and wife, Frances and Raymond and wife, Velma.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Richard Lee and wife, Janet, Wesley Wayne and wife, Katherine and Rex Allen; one brother, Paul and wife, Lola of Kearney; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m., at Wilsonville Methodist Church in Wilsonville with Terry McCorkle and the Rev. Russell Malchow officiating. Inurnment will be in the Wilsonville Cemetery.
Memorial may be left at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in his name to the Wilsonville Ambulance.
