HAMLET -- Helena F Hubbard, 93, died Monday (Oct. 13, 2008) at Wauneta.
She was born Jan. 5, 1915, to William Frederick and Emilie (Schultz) Wach in Hayes County. She attended grade school at High Ridge and White Eagle Schools. She graduated from Hamlet High School in 1932.
She was united in marriage to Basil (Sam) Hubbard at the Congregational Church Parsonage in Hayes Center on March 27, 1937. They lived and farmed north of Hamlet and moved to Hamlet in 1969. They were married 53 years.
She was declared legally blind as a young adult. She played the violin and was a cook for four years for the Hamlet School. She moved to Heritage of Wauneta in 2004.
She was a member of the Hamlet Union Church the last several years of her life and participated with the Red Hat ladies at the Heritage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam; two sisters, Coletta Hahn and husband, Dick, and Naomi Nelson and husband, Leonard; two brothers, Harold Wach and wife, Anna Mae and Vernon Wach; one sister--in- law, Zania Wach; two nephews, Donald Wach and Ronald Wach; and great-nephew, Evan Wach.
Survivors include her sister, Dorean and husband, A.H. "Bud" Carey of Clearfield, Utah; brother, Ralph Wach of Albany, Ore; sister-in-law, Granta Wach of Hayes Center; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be at Hamlet Union Church Friday at 10 a.m., CT with the Rev. Marshall Erickson officiating. Burial will be at the Hamlet cemetery.
Viewing will be at the church on Thursday from 2-6 p.m., CT.
Memorials may be given in her name.
