PALISADE -- Dickie Allen Wickizer was born to Leo and Bonnie (Meguire) Wickizer of Stratton, Neb., on July 19, 1940, and died Oct. 3, 2008, as a result of a truck accident at the age of 68.

Dickie grew up on the Shackelford ranch in the southwestern part of Nebraska and graduated in 1959, from the Stratton High School at Stratton.

On Jan. 5, 1963, Dickie married the love of his life, Patsy Jean Long at Wauneta, Neb., and to this union eight children were born.

Dickie led a full and joyous life, in his younger years he was well known for his talents of bull riding, bareback-riding, singing with his sister and long nights of guitar picking.

Dickie began driving commercial truck. He drove for the Messengers' of McCook, Bruce Clark of Oklahoma and L& S of Culbertson. He ended his driving career of the last 23 years with Don Hagan and Son's of Culbertson.

One of Dickie's favorite past times was spending time horsing around and teasing his many grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two sons, Tommy Allen and Dickie Wilber; his granddaughter, Nichole Dawn; his brother, Jackie Leon; and his parents.

Surviving him is his wife of 45 years, Patsy Wickizer of Palisade; his children, Dixie Wickizer and Randy Burkhalter of Benkelman, Neb., Sonja and Phil Sailors of North Platte, Neb. , Ritchie and Tammy Wickizer of Culbertson, Neb., Karl and Kelly Wickizer of Culbertson, Neb., Victoria Brown of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Teresa and Mike Faith of Palisade; grandchildren, Douglas, Mathew, Eric, Joshua, Johnathon, Chelsea, Molli, Mariah, Casey Micheal, Casey Ray, Ty, Vicki, Deja, Cody, Brooklyn, Colton, Corey Allen, Cory William and Miranda Jean. He is also survived by brothers and sister, Dale and Paula Wickizer of Arizona, Barbara and Frank Gradt of New Mexico, Janice Edgell of Wauneta and Rhonda and Darrell Richard of Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews; and an unaccountable amount of friends including life time friends, Bruce Clark of Oklahoma and Deny Bishop of Oberlin, Kan., and Jim Sailors of North Platte.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday Oct. 8, 2008, at United Methodist Church in Stratton with the Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Stratton.

Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

The casket will not be opened at the church.
