CULBERTSON -- Joye Louise Thompson, age 82, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Nebraska Veteran's Home in Grand Island, Neb.

She was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Koch) Heizenreter of Culbertson, Neb. Joye grew up in Culbertson where she graduated from Culbertson High School in 1943.

On Sept. 20, 1945, Joye married Denly John Thompson in Oberlin, Kan. They spent their married life in Culbertson where they owned and operated Thompson's IGA grocery until retiring in 1982. In February 2000, they moved to Kearney, Neb. In May 2003, they moved to the Nebraska Veteran's Home.

She was a life-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson where she was an active member of the Women's Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Denly on Feb. 17, 2004, her father in 1954, and mother in 1969.

Joye is survived by sons, Denly Joseph Thompson and his wife, Carol of Hastings, Neb., Timothy Thompson of McCook and Matthew Thompson of Greeley, Colo.; daughters, Sarajane Grandia and husband, Robert of Loveland, Colo., Marijill Nickerson and husband, Thomas of Kearney; eight grandchildren, Candace Walton and husband, Ryan, Katrina Carlson and husband, Darren, Denly Jacob Thompson and fiancee, Kendra Engelman, Meredith Grandia, LesleyGrandia, Holli Nickerson, Tyson Nickerson and Erica Thompson; five great-grandchildren, Alexis and Elizabeth Walton, Clara Carlson, Breonna Gill and Elijah Closson; and sisters-in-law, Wanda Christ of Ohio and Marjory Underwood of Oregon.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Brad Rick officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church, the Nebraska Childrens Home or donor's choice.
