Irene E. Pope, 91, died Monday (Sept. 15, 2008) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born May 18, 1917, at Eldorado, Neb., to Jacob and Agnes (Klippenstein) Tessman.

She married Glen Pope on March 16, 1939, at Belleville, Kan. They moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he was stationed in the Navy.

She was a paint operator for many years at McDonnell Douglas, which later became Boeing Aircraft Company. After their retirement in 1972, they moved to Redding, Calif.

She had been living in McCook since 1999. She moved to Highland Park Retirement Community and most recently was living at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Agnes Tessman; husband, Glen Pope; seven sisters, Martha Rath, Marie Peters, Helen Cook, Rosalie Porath, Ann Korell, Agnes Funk and Hazel Korell; and two brothers, Jack Tessman and Frank Tessman.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Culbertson Cemetery. Inurnment will follow. Jerry Beckenhauer will be officiating.
