Bison golfers 3rd at home; Trew, Rokusek 4th, 10th

The McCook High School Bison girls golf team started the 2008 season by placing third in the McCook Invitational Friday at Heritage Hills Golf Course.

Minden won the tournament with a 398 score, followed by Lexington 421, McCook 445, Ogallala 481 and Holdrege 491.

Two McCook players placed in the top 10 and earned medals.

Alex Trew placed fourth with a 99 score (52-47) and Megan Rokusek finished eighth with a 110 score (57-53).

Shelby Allen shot 117 (61-56), Becky Goodenberger 119 (58-61), Sydney Jumps 120 (60-60) and Cori O'Dea 122 (54-68). O'Dea was playing junior varsity competition.

In addition to Trew, three other players broke 100.

Minden's Allison Exstrom notched first-place medalist honors with an 87 (44-43), followed by Lexington's Kelsey Ondrak in second place with an 89 (47-42) and Minden's Laynee Woodward in third place with a 96 (45-51).

Lexington's Abrea Hernandez placed fifth with a 102 (53-49), followed by Miden's Morgan Kristensen in sixth with a 104 (53-51) and Holdrege's Emily Cox in seventh with a 107 (51-56).

Ogallala's Allison Reimers and Minden's Heather Anderson placed ninth and 10th at 111. Reimers shot 52-59 and Anderson 56-55.

Dundy County-Stratton entered two golfers. Alexandra Rettele shot 178 (92-86) and Katie Stroup shot 208 (108-100).

McCook will compete at the Sidney Invitational Thursday and North Platte Invitational Friday. Both meets start at 9 a.m.
