MAYWOOD --Douglas J. Florom, 56 of Firth, NE formerly of Maywood, died Aug. 25, 2008, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Neb.

Douglas J. Florom was born on March 13, 1952 to Herbert and CeCelia (Bates) Florom at Curtis, Neb. He attended school in Maywood graduating from Maywood High School in 1970.

Following graduation Doug attended University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis where he received an Associates degree in Horticulture. After finishing school he worked as a farmhand for Max Schmitz and then for the Co-op in Maywood.

Doug married Vicky Norgaard on Dec. 18, 1976, at the Methodist Church in Maywood. To this union two children were born, Jennifer and Sarah.

After moving from Maywood to Lexington Doug went to work for New Holland where he continued to work for 23 years. Working for New Holland he worked in Lexington, Columbus and Grand Island. In 2004, Doug met Kathy Lowry and in 2005, he moved to Firth and went to work for the Tractor Supply Company where he continued to work until the time of his death.

Doug was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan, both football and baseball, and never missed a game. He enjoyed playing softball which he played into his 50s. He enjoyed riding his Harley with the current love of his life, Kathy. Doug enjoyed camping, blues festivals, golfing and darts. Doug's most important activity was spending time with his family, especially spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.

Doug is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Flood of Pleasanton, Neb., and Sarah (Kent) Plonkey of Kearney, Neb.; best friend, Kathy Lowry of Firth; two grandchildren, Taryn and Jaycee Flood of Pleasanton; one brother, Mike Florom of Leesville, S.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother George "Butch" Florom and one sister, Marlis "Marty" Schafer.

Visitation is today from 3-8 p.m., at Blasé-Wetzel-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Curtis.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, United Methodist Church in Curtis with Pastor Lana Fong officiating.
