Ervin John Frecks died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at the Hospice Care of Boulder & Broomfield at Louisville, Colo., at the age of 88.

He was born Nov. 10, 1919, at Culbertson, Neb., the son of the late John J. and Emma (Northrup) Frecks. Following Emma's death after child birth John J. married Etta Meints who became mother to his four children and to this union four more children were born.

Ervin grew up at Culbertson where he received his education. On Feb. 19, 1943, Ervin entered the U.S. Army where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in North Burma during World War II. He received his honorable discharge from the military on Sept. 28,1945.

On Jan. 23, 1954, Ervin married Elouise Maxine Runge at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. They resided in McCook until moving to Utah in 1959 and then to Longmont, Colo., in 1970, where they spent the remainder of their lives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elouise on June 30, 1989; one brother, Alvere Frecks; three sisters, Marie Frecks, Margaret Michel and her husband, Adolph, and Erma Michel and her husband, Albert; and brother-in-law, Erwin Wudtke.

Ervin is survived by one daughter, D' On Johnson and fiance, Rich Ritchie of Greeley, Colo.; one son, Daniel Frecks and his wife, Wanda of Lakeside, Calif.; grandchildren, Amanda and Brandon Santifer, Jonathon Frecks, Adam Cunningham, Nathanial Frecks and wife, Jenna, Christopher Frecks, Loren Johnson and wife, Emily, Jeannie Nelson and husband, Daniel and Vincent and Nathaniel Ritchie; four great-grandsons, Josh Dillon and Austin Frecks and Wyatt Johnson; two brothers, Leonard Frecks and wife, Dorothy of Elkhorn, Neb., John Frecks and wife, Karen of Berthoud, Colo.; one sister, Leona Wudtke of McCook, Neb.; sister-in-law, Pauline Frecks of Culbertson; and relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Paul Warneke officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery in McCook.

His family has requested no flowers. Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call Thursday at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
