IMPERIAL -- Larry Clair Gardner, 69, died Saturday (Aug. 2, 2008) at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1938, in Imperial to Calvin and Edna (Jaeger) Gardner. As a young man he attended District No. 22 Grade School and Chase County High School in Imperial.
On June 3,1961, he married Shirley Bischoff at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial and the couple settled on a farm northwest of town.
In 1963, they moved to Sidney, where he worked in construction until 1964 when they returned to Imperial. He worked for Chase County and in 1969, he went to work the City of Imperial on the street department, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Imperial Eagles Aerie No. 3472.
He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Gardner; sister, Maurine Ransdell; brothers-in-law, Dick Reynolds, Gale Ransdell and Marvin Bischoff; niece, Cristi Green; and one great-niece, Tina Marie Gerdes.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Imperial; daughter, Karla Pargas and husband, Morris of Holyoke, Colo.; mother, Edna of Imperial; sisters, Pauline Brandt and husband, Gilbert of Imperial, LaVeta Reynolds of Parker, Colo., and LeAnna Goff and husband, Duane of Imperial; brothers, Myron Gardner and wife, Carol of Arvada, Colo., Delvin Gardner and wife, Loneta of Osmond and Lauren "Butch" Gardner and wife, Pam of Milwaukee, Ore.; and many numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral services were today at Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial, with the Rev. David Kahle officiating. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery at Imperial.
A memorial has been established to the Imperial EMT's/Chase County Hospital and the Imperial Manor Hospice.
